Challenge
Santee Cooper needed a new kitchen sink installed in a commercial office breakroom at their headquarters facility — a job that sounds straightforward but required running new drain and supply lines through walls, tying into an existing exterior cleanout (which meant cutting and repairing asphalt), and coordinating a phased approach around the general contractor’s wall repair and countertop installation schedule.
Solution
PlumbX broke the project into three coordinated phases to work around the construction sequence. In Phase 1, the team plumbed a new 2″ PVC sink drain line approximately 25 linear feet through the break room wall, penetrated the exterior, and excavated a 5’x5′ section of asphalt to connect the new drain line to the existing 4″ outside cleanout. The asphalt was patched and repaired after the connection was tested. In Phase 2, the team tapped the existing ¾” copper cold water supply using a ProPress T-fitting with a ½” branch, transitioned to PEX, installed a shut-off valve, and completed two stub-outs — one for the refrigerator line and one for the cold water supply — along with a 1½” drain stub-out, cap, and Studor vent stub-out above. All lines were pressurized and tested for leaks. In Phase 3, after walls were repaired and the sink cabinet and countertop were in place, PlumbX returned to install the drop-in stainless steel sink and faucet, connect the drain trap, and make the final water supply connections. All fixtures were tested for proper operation.
Results
Santee Cooper received a fully functional, code-compliant breakroom sink installation coordinated seamlessly across three site visits with zero callbacks. The phased approach respected the general construction sequence, kept the job on schedule, and delivered a clean, finished result for one of South Carolina’s largest utility providers.
